What we like about Menomonee Falls

A village that offers it all, what is there not to love about Menomonee Falls? From a vibrant downtown equipped with an entertaining event schedule to several parks and outdoor recreation areas, here are some of our favorite things about the Falls as well as the village’s history.

The History of Menomonee Falls

Menomonee Falls was originally settled by two Native American tribes, the Menomonee and Chippewa. However, European settlement occurred in the late 1800s and a portion of the area was first incorporated as a village in 1892.

Shortly after its inception, the village became well known as the location of the Wisconsin Sugar Factory, which employed up to 500 employees and produced up to 15 million pounds of sugar annually during its peak production. In the 1900s the village continued to grow as automobiles, paved roads, electricity, and public services started to reach the village. In 1958, the village grew significantly after the Town of Menomonee Falls was annexed. The population went from 4,500 to 12,000 overnight.

Fast forward to today, and the village supports an estimated population of near 38,000 and major businesses such as Kohl’s Corporate Campus, Harley Davidson’s Powertrain Operations, and MillerCoors Brewing Company.

The village really grew!

Falls Village Culture & Entertainment

There is plenty to do in Menomonee Falls. What are you looking for? Outdoor recreation? Good food and drinks? Live concerts? Well, Menomonee Falls has all of that and much more.

If you are looking to get active, consider visiting Menomonee Park or taking a walk down the Menomonee River Parkway as it follows the Menomonee River for about two miles. After you work up an appetite hiking around the village, grabbing a bite to eat is essential. Try Nino’s Italian Bakery & Deli or Harvey Moy’s Chinese & American Restaurant, and check out our guide to the best restaurants in Menomonee falls & Germantown

The entirety of downtown Menomonee Falls is bustling with entertainment. Our favorites are the sunset concert series and Falls Memorial Fest, which are put on in Village Park and the downtown area. With events such as these it's easy to see why Menomonee Falls was nominated as the 15th best place to live in America by Money Magazine in 2020.

Sports & Museums in Nearby Milwaukee

Menomonee Falls also lies near the larger city of Milwaukee. The Cream City is only about a 25-minute drive away from Menomonee Falls, which means professional sports games featuring the Milwaukee Brewers or Bucks are completely accessible for Falls citizens. Watch the Brewers take on their rivals the Minnesota Twins in the Border Battle at American Family Field.

Milwaukee also provides access to a variety of indoor attractions. These attractions include The Milwaukee Museum of Art, Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, and Discover World, the latter of which is stocked with an aquarium, innovation station and several other interactive exhibits perfect for the whole family!
