Most motorcycles will fit in 5 ft. by 10 ft. storage units, but if you’ve got a few extra items to store, get a bigger unit!

Most cars will require a 10 ft. by 20 ft. storage unit, although a handful of cars can fit into smaller units (check your car’s dimensions if you’re unsure). Larger campers and trailers can fit in 10 ft. by 20 or 30 ft. units, but the door height of 7 ft. can be restrictive. Most side by sides can fit in 10 ft. by 10 ft. units, while paddleboards, jet skis and snowmobiles usually fit in 10 ft. by 15 ft. units. Some kayaks and canoes require 10 ft. by 20 ft. units, and it’s best to have a support system in mind so the hull won’t crack or warp.

Smaller pleasure boats, like bass boats and ski boats, can also fit in select units, but remember to include the length of your trailer (and its tongue) when selecting a size. 

Warehouse-style drive-up access, although not as common, can often be used for trailered boats that are taller than 7 ft.

There are three main sizes that you’ll find at most storage facilities: 5 ft. by 10 ft., 10 ft. by 10 ft., and 10 ft. by 20 ft. In addition, there are going to be many sizes in between, some larger and some smaller.

Approximately 50 sq. ft., these units can hold one or two pieces of furniture, a few boxes, gardening equipment or a motorcycle, and a few extra items.

Approximately 100 sq. ft., these units can hold the equivalent of a 1- or 2-bedroom apartment. These can also hold small personal watercraft or one side by side.

Approximately 100 sq. ft., these units can hold the equivalent of a 3- to 4-bedroom household. Cars and similarly sized vehicles can also be stored.
