In addition to its historic roots, Central Falls continues to attract more and more residents every year. Over the course of 2010 to 2020, the city’s population grew from 19,376 to 22,583, according to Census.gov. From Chocolateville to Central Falls

The history of Central Falls dates to the late 17th century, as the area was the site of a major battle during King Phillip’s War. Early in the 18th century, the first settlement was constructed along the Blackstone River when Captain Stephen Jenks outfitted his own blacksmith shop in the area. Eventually, other manufacturers joined Jenks in his building; one of these businesses was run by a chocolate maker. The area quickly became known as Chocolateville.

In 1824, the name Central Falls was first suggested by Jenks. Through the years, the area experienced significant growth. This growth caused the area to split into several additional towns including Smithfield, North Smithfield and Lincoln. Central Falls officially became a city in 1895.

The first settlers of Central Falls were predominantly Quakers. However, immigrants from Ireland, Scotland and French Canada soon followed. During the 21st century, a larger number of Hispanic immigrants found a home in Central Falls. Overall, Central Falls is a diverse city. In 1995, the city celebrated its 100th anniversary by throwing a parade, in which 100 countries from around the world were represented.
