What we like about Crystal

Situated about 5 miles from Downtown Minneapolis in Hennepin County, the city of Crystal is once again in growth mode. After years of declining population, Crystal’s population grew 5.3% to 23,330 in the 2020 census. Crystal is ranked by Niche.com as a top 35 suburb for young professionals as well as its low-cost living.

Crystal’s roots stretch back to before Minnesota’s statehood when settler John Ware Dow moved into the area in 1852. The late 1800s saw a lot of disorganization in the region, and it wasn’t until 1911 that the Village of Crystal was reorganized. In 1960, the Village of Crystal became a City of the Second Class. Its population peaked in the 1970 census, with nearly 31,000 residents. While it steadily at each of the next four censuses, the 2020 headcount showed a strong recovery.

Crystal has become a good place for families and people looking for outdoor adventures. In total, Crystal has 26 parks, plus sports fields and courts, playgrounds, trails, and activity areas. The Crystal Community Center is home to Crystal Cove, an outdoor aquatic center and skate park.

Living in the Twin Cities affords residents many opportunities to root for pro sports teams. The metro area is home to the Twins (MLB), the Vikings (NFL), the Wild (NHL), the Timberwolves (NBA), the Lynx (WNBA), and United FC (MLS).
